PEMF or Pulsed Electromagnetic field therapy uses bursts of electromagnetic radiation to heal bones and tissues and to stimulate organs. The technique has gained popularity among athletes because of its multiple benefits. Athletes strive for perfect health to reduce injuries while maintaining a heavy workout regime. Several have resorted to PEMF therapy to ensure that they are in the best physical condition possible for their sporting activities. The main difference between high-level and low-level power PEMF devices is in their power ie how much electricity (measured in volts) is generated to produce the magnetic field (measured in Gauss). Both of them transfer waves that pass through the cells in the problem area and increase the spin of electrons within the cells. Low intensity PEMF devices usually generate less than 1,000 Gauss while high Intensity PEMF devices from 1,000 to 50,000 Gauss. Hence, low intensity devices discharge way less energy than do high intensity ones. Low intensity devices use lower-end frequencies with the aim to hit and disturb targeted frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum. Opposite of that, high intensity ones use higher-end frequencies that enables them to disturb and excite all the frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum at once.

One of the effects of PEMF therapy is that it increases blood flow or blood circulation around the body. It is, therefore, a mode of therapy that is highly advised for people who have poor blood flow. It is, however, important to note that the increase in blood flow persists for a while even after the therapy has been withdrawn. This may have some unexpected negative effects on the body, for example increased oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an excessive amount of free radicals in the body, which the body does not have the capacity to detoxify and their harmful effects cannot be countered. This side effect can be countered by administering anti-oxidants before and during therapy. Patients are also advised to eat foods that are rich in antioxidants. These include apples, spinach, kales, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables.
